a return to the fields

Life picked up the pace as soon as Spring Break ended. Before we knew it, soccer season was nipping at our heels.

All at once, Tay and I were scrambling to plan soccer practices. Then to avoid further responsibilities, I set out player positions.

As assistant coach, I am utterly useless in teaching these girls the fine rules of soccer. But I am pretty organized. This chart has cut down whining about 3%. Despite this beautiful flow of assignments where everyone gets a chance to play everything, I am still barraged with “can I be goalie please please pleeeeaaaasssseeeeeee”. Girls. GIRLS. Can we respect what the spreadsheet gods have laid before us?

Anyway, practices began.

Our team could only work in an evening of practice before the games began.

Check out that backdrop.

Utah is a beautiful place.

Then the girls were back on the field! And the play position chart worked beautifully. Narrator voice: it worked mediocrely.

Oma, Opa, and Preston came to town to attend those first games back!

More on them in the next post.

So great to be back into the soccer season.

Now I’m off to readjust the spreadsheet. And buy more snacks. Make boondoggle grass structures. All the things that I actually can do for this brilliant team of girls. 😉
