NYE staycation 2025

We like to ring in the new year with a little staycation. Wrapping up the holiday season with some extra fun activities is a perfect way to get back into the swing of things.

This year was a little tricky, as we had spent the entire Christmas break fighting off one sickness or another. Fortunately, the kiddos were finally better in time to watch Moana. (We were negative for COVID but still wore masks everywhere so we wouldn’t spread or catch any more cold symptoms!)

First up on the staycation agenda: a showing of Moana 2!

I’m not crazy about kid / Disney shows, but Moana was really great!

That evening, Taylor felt well enough to join us at a new-to-us restaurant (Texas Roadhouse — thank you for the gift card, Carina!) and then we were off to the kids’ most anticipated activity of the night: sleeping in a hotel!

Complete with swimming, of course 🙂

Archer was unable to go swimming because his eyes were still recovering from recent surgery. But this little man took that disappointment like a champ. He and I played Pikman on the big screen while Tay took the others to swim.

We don’t have a television at home, so this was quite a novelty for the littles! (Our last TV was damaged when we moved into our house 2 years ago. We just haven’t gotten around to replacing it.)

I don’t mind playing a video game here and there, but I DO mind watching others play for hours on end. I’d much rather become a frightening creature.

Fear me.

Just found it cute how the littles are conscientious about tucking in their stuffies before bed 🙂

After gorging ourselves on hotel breakfast, I was dropped off at home to catch up on sleep while Tay & the kids went off to terrorize local playgrounds. Later that evening, we celebrated with delicious ice cream to finish up the trip.

Love this random tradition we have every year!
