The first semester of grad school

Every semester, I do a little recap of the college courses on the agenda.

Stained glass window from Utah Valley University

Originally I started with four classes but that was a LOT. Frankly, this brain is made of soup. And not even the chunky kind. I could NOT keep up with the onslaught of information & assignments. 😭

I brought down my workload and internal screaming to halftime. After all, someone needs to be around to bully Junior.

Onto the classes!

Financial Planning for Professionals

This has been an in-depth practice of what I’ll be doing as a CFP.

We completed a client’s portfolio in the first half of the class. Now we’re studying alll the major insurance products out there. We’ll apply an insurance analysis to a client soon enough.

It’s a GOOD class but definitely information heavy. So many clauses and exemptions to memorize!

I also realized 8 weeks into the course that the professor DOES provide a study guide for each module. Ohhh how I wish I’d known that before 😭😭😭

Tax Planning

This class has really opened my eyes to how tax planning is a year round event, not just an April 15th problem 🙂

In the first half, we read Tax Free Wealth and discussed tax strategies white page examples from my professor (who is a CPA). We currently are working on a tax code research project that will be taking up my life for the next few weeks.

And that’s it!

Next semester I will be off on MATERNITY LEAVE. Still so wild I’m growing a tiny baby right now, ha! I’m so grateful to grow my family and career together. 🤍

Completion Status: 6/18 credit hours towards becoming a certified financial planner!
