Apple harvest

Not sure if I’ve shared much about our little orchard, so let’s talk!

Taylor’s maternal grandparents are the King & Queen of Self Reliance. They’re frugal providers for their family. One of their gifts to their children was to gift each of them a few trees in their family orchard. When Taylor’s parents broke our hearts and moved away, they passed on their piece of the orchard to Taylor and me.

Taylor & his grandpa work in tandem to care for these beautiful trees throughout the year. Grandpa handles the irrigation & pest control. (Dang raccoons made off with peaches like the adorably naughty bandits they are. Meanwhile, Taylor manages pruning & mowing.

And of course, when it’s harvest time, then it becomes a full family affair 🙂

Our peach trees didn’t produce anything, thanks to the aforementioned bandits + last May’s late frost. But did we end up with a lovely bunch of apples and plums.

Let’s get a close up of those beauties.

Archer, the ever gentle cub, was unsure about plucking those plump plums out from their cozy bundles.

After we gleaned the trees, Grandpa invited the kids to pick a pumpkin from the patch. I’ve got to figure out how he gets his to grow so well. Mine couldn’t be bothered to flower.

Thank you for allowing us to enjoy the fruits of your labor, Grandma & Grandpa!
