She’s out but he’s devout! A continuing tale of a mixed-faith marriage

I didn’t make an announcement when I renounced my membership with the LDS church.

Honestly, it’s vanity to think my ‘announcement’ was a big deal. Few people already know and fewer even care. But there is a question that ALWAYS comes up whenever I explain I’m not LDS anymore but Taylor still is.

Are you and Taylor getting divorced?!

Pfffft. As if he could ever leave this delightfully intelligent and fine creature.

No, we are happily married, when we’re not otherwise jump-scaring each other.

Taylor is about as “active” as they come. He enjoys the religion and is serving as a Sunday School teacher for 12 & 13 year-olds. (And yes. He also teaches math to that same age group 5 days a week! Bless him.)

So our mixed-faith marriage tale begins. Admittedly it was a highly-charged emotional beginning. However, we have since found peace with our faith journeys.

That brings us to the housekeeping items!

Mormonism is a high-demand religion, designed to engage with as an everyday lifestyle. Right now we are muddling through how we approach our kids’ baptisms. Soon we’ll have to talk about general conference weekend traditions. Not to mention there’s a local temple open house coming up later this year. Still figuring out boundaries and loving compromises with these milestone events.

Our daily routines are also in the process of change. What does Family Home Evening look like? Family scripture study? What do we teach the kids about God? Tithing?!

Sheeeeyoooot. I really don’t know yet, to be honest.

Fortunately, with choice also comes wisdom. We’ll make a decision, reflect, and adjust. And when Taylor and I get stuck, then therapy & prayer will help us find common ground again.

Kinda sounds like the formula to life in general, really. 😉

There are more updates to share as unique challenges come our way. We’re not in a place to take outsider suggestions quite yet. This is still a bit raw for us. However, I’m glad to share our experiences and answer any questions 😊

Thanks for reading ❤️ Love, us
