A little zoo date with my mom

… and my grandma & uncle, too 🙂

My loves for animals pales in comparison with the rest of the Beckstead folks. Their love makes mine look like indifference. My kitten rescue looks like a slaughterhouse when put against their love & care for the animal kingdom.

We got a good start at 9:00 on that toasty August morning.

This is as close to a bear as I ever want to be

We saw off the Hogle Zoo elephants before they are moved into a larger herd.

I just read a great murder mystery by Jodi Picoult that takes place on an elephant sanctuary. Homicide delights aside, Leaving Time shared a ton of great information on the inner relationships of these great animals, and how they thrive best in their matriarchal herds with plenty of roaming space. All that to say; I hope these elephants are able to make friends with their new herd. And hopefully that a sanctuary is in the near future for them.

Finally, we wrapped up our date to a Dutch deli. I was super excited to get in touch with my roots. That is, until the Dutch foodstuffs assaulted me with childhood memories of how much I dislike their food. If you don’t like licorice, then you won’t care for these!

Ah well. It was still fun to try it out again 🙂

Thanks for a wonderful morning out, Mom!
