(almost) Gotcha Chloe!

kk so you guys remember when I accidentally brought home a dog?

What I meant to say is that I accidentally brought home a wolf. A wolf named Chloe.

Look at this big girl!!!!!!

All the details you want to know:

  • Name: Chloe
  • Breed: “Border Collie”, according to the shelter.
  • Weight: 80 Pounds
  • Age: 7-8 years old
  • Adoption Status: Temp Foster

Chloe is technically our foster dog. She hasn’t been fixed (!) After her surgery later this week, then we’ll officially adopt her as one of our own.

Chloe’s Adoption Story

I was waiting in the shelter lobby for a new set of foster kittens. The staff took forever to bring out the kittens. I’ve never had to wait that long before! It was meant to happen that way, however. My boys were getting antsy after waiting 40+ minutes in the lobby. I picked up the binder of dog listings and flipped through trying to entertain the boys. Chloe’s bio was tucked right there in the middle. She was the only dog with a good history with kids, cats, and other dogs.

A few minutes later, Chloe joined us in the meet & greet room.

Eventually the kittens did come out. I returned Chloe to her handler and began the drive home.

I couldn’t stop thinking about Chloe. I really felt like I had left my dog behind. Plus, other families had noticed her and were taking their turns in the meet & greet room. With a prayer in my heart, I turned around and zoomed back, hoping nobody had adopted her on the spot!

I’m so glad I turned around.

Learning to care for a dog has been a huge learning experience. Daily poop scoops. Long walks. And constant refilling of the water dish.

And my goodness. The hair!

We still haven’t figured out the best mealtime situation. As soon as our backs are turned, Chloe will dive for Junior’s expensive medicinal food. Junior, who hates being healthy, is only happy to trade his bowl for Chloe’s cheap kibble. As of now, I have Junior’s food out in his cat house. You know, the one he hates.

Chloe is the perfect dog. She’s friendly, loves people, but will absolutely protect me if necessary. She’s my little (giant) shadow. In fact, she would preferably sleep on my face at bedtime so she can watch me at all times. Buuuuut she snores like a drunk, so she sleeps with the kids at night. 🙂

We so love our Chloe girl. We can’t wait to officially welcome her to the family on Wednesday.

  1. Border Collies are great dogs! My friend had a similar experience. She went to PAWS for a small dog and fell in love with Wolfie. He is a hugh mixed breed. LOL

    • That’s how it goes! You never know quite what you’re coming home with from the shelter lol. She has been such a lovely pupper for us!

  2. She looks sooo much like my girl you should look into the breed of Native American Indian Dogs (N.A.I.D’s) that’s what she looks like to me!

    • You’re not the first person to suggest she might be a NAID breed! I would totally test her if DNA kits weren’t so pricey!
