gathering to celebrate the good news (Easter 2023)

My MIL texted me this painting of Jesus that I love.

Easter morning began with Taylor reading aloud the Easter story from the bible. The children paid very close attention as they leaped from couch cushions onto the coffee table, interjecting with questions about they could go hunt for their easter baskets 🙂

Then it was on to the easter Sunday service at the Lutheran church, where the good news was celebrated in preaching, call and response, and prayers.

My favorite part was when the kids sat up front for a little lesson. The pastor showed the kids the easter egg, which got them all riled up with excitement. He popped it open to reveal nothing inside. A 3 year old girl shouted “IT’S EMPTY?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!”.

The congregation got a pretty good laugh out of that.

Obviously, the pastor went on to describe the experience of the empty tomb, but this little girls’ exasperation introduced a new perspective. Sure, the women were likely shocked and dismayed. But I wonder if they also felt anger that yet another wicked thing had happened to their beloved leader. “ITS EMPTY?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!” How much more persecution could be afflicted on them & their beloved leader?

Thank you to those folks who made us feel so welcome and invited us to the after-sermon brunch!

Then it was down to my parents’ for a late lunch.

dad’s pretzel salad game is going strong

I never pass up a chance to be at my parents’ home. It just feels safe and happy and like home. 🤍

Eggs were hunted:

In the name of Roman soldiers stealing joy, I robbed Kylee of her quarters and Cami of her pez candies. Tis the season suckaaaaaaahs.

Easter wrapped up with a visit from our dear friend Kim. Archer got this great photo of her!

Love you Kim!

Easter 2023 was a wonderful holiday spent with church members, friends, family, and butterfinger bars. Love you all! 😘
