a long walk

My dear friend Anna took us on the most amazing winter hike:

Nature was waking up for the day. The lake was frosted over, yet glowing with sunlight. The air was still and echoey.

When Anna suggested the hike, she mentioned it was seven miles.

SEVEN. MILES.

Because that’s a LONG walk.

Apparently, I am a big wuss. Instead of vocalizing my concern for hiking such a feat with my frail weak body, I said “sounds perfect can do let’s go!!!”

We got started at 7 am.

The morning was so quiet, not a person or bison in sight yet.

Instead of looking at the magnitude of the hike before me, I tried to enjoy the gorgeous view instead. I let my thoughts wander. Sometimes Anna and I walked together, and sometimes she took the lead while I trekked on more slowly in the back.

The views were wonderful.

I loved our uninterrupted conversation time. From parenting to social media to necklaces on Etsy… it was so fun.

And before I knew it, 6.98 miles had passed. a bison was vibing on the foot trodden path ahead of us, so we made a short cut of the field back to the car.

We did it!

Without Anna’s encouragement, I never would have even entertained the notion of a long hike.

But now I know I can do it. And it was fun and relaxing and exhilarating all at once.

Apparently, I’m stronger than I thought.

Thank you Anna. Can’t wait for our next one! 🤍
