So. We’re not moving to Texas. We ARE still moving somewhere in Utah. Probably. Maybe. Hopefully?
Let me back up.
After the ultimate failure to find a home in Texas, Taylor quit OT school, and immediately got to work finding a job. It took about a month, but he was able to find another teaching gig much closer to home. We are SO grateful that he still worked on his teaching license well after he had been accepted to OT school. It was a “just in case Texas doesn’t work out but surely that won’t happy lmao”. WELL IT CERTAINLY PAID OFF.
Taylor got the new job in July.
We celebrated and went camping in Idaho.
On the drive home from Idaho, I got a text message that our landlords were selling the townhome we had rented for several years.
We went from a stable home & new job to now having 6 weeks to pack up and move into a new home.
On I-15 southbound near Tremonton, you can still hear the faint but anguished screams of a woman who has been cursed to never find a stable home and who has also dropped her chocolate milkshake onto the pavement.
That very same night that I got home from camping, my dad and my uncle went house hunting with me. They helped me find a lender, get the pre-approval process going, and my uncle (who is a licensed realtor and contractor) has walked dozens of homes with us since then.

You guys.
I never, ever want to buy a house or move never, ever again.
A house we really liked would go under contract just as we literally signing an offer. Or a house would look great, only to learn that a repeat child r*p*st had moved in literally next door. Or there was this one house that looked charming, had a safe-ish enough neighborhood, but the seller’s realtor “accidentally” let slip that the city was planning to put a new highway road literally in our front yard within 2 years.
It’s a particularly difficult season to buy in. The market is starting to cool off, but the house prices are nowhere reasonable. Even the fixer uppers are requesting outlandish bids. But, as sucky as it is to buy at the top of the market, we still kinda sorta need a place to live. 🙂
So, where did we end up going?
Well, frankly, we STILL don’t know. We’ve combed through just about every option currently available. (I admit I looked into RV living again… something about tiny house living is so charming!) There are a couple viable options that we’re waiting on. Until we hear back on those, we are packing, cleaning, and stress eating a whole lotta ice cream bars as the move-out date deadline draws near.
The entire situation sucks, but we are not going to be homeless. 🙂 There are options, however unsavory, but we won’t be without a place to call home. At the very least, I will dig out a burrow in my parent’s property and live there like rabbits until we buy a house. My parents are very motivated to keep their yard intact and are helping out wherever they can. Speaking of helping out, a special shoutout to them, my inlaws, my realtor, my friends, and that-guy-at-church-who-is-also-a-realtor passing on information to us … so many people helping out in any way. We don’t deserve you people but we sure love you and are so grateful for you!
I’ve spent too long staring at this screen, so Imma go pack my bedroom.
Loves! CJ
