This post was originally shared in a private post back on July 4th, 2020. I think it applies today as well with the current political divides.

My therapist once asked me why I was afraid of acknowledging the tensions in a strained relationship. I told him, somewhat aghast, “Because it would hurt people! And then we’d fight! I don’t want us to fall apart because I spoke up.”
He told me, “People are already hurting. YOU’RE hurting. Sometimes the relationship has to fall apart so you can rebuild what’s not working.”
I think that’s how 2020 for America has been: Muted voices are gaining traction. They’re acknowledging the tensions in the strained relationship with their home country. (Tensions doesn’t begin to describe racism, I know.)
People are hurting. And fighting. We’re breaking down what’s not working so we can rebuild.
The cause of liberty is in our blood. We must continue fighting for it for ourselves and for our citizens. I honestly believe that we can fully become the land of the free, kind and brave.
Happy birthday, America. Another year older and hopefully wiser too. ![]()
