Christmas cards: one of the best traditions

I love letters. In my opinion, there is nothing more charming than receiving a Christmas card in the mailbox.

Except for maybe opening that card and taping it to the Wall of Cheer:

We love all of these faces and love them even more if their beloved pets make the family portrait.

THE DOG IS SMILING

This year, I had a few extra cards to send out, so I immediately messaged every single I’ve ever met in my life to ask if they wanted one of the few spares. To my surprise, almost everyone did! (Those who didn’t want one are probably just dead and thus couldn’t respond to my probing questions asking for their home addresses and marital statuses.)

To have so many friends in need of mailbox Christmas cheer landed me in a pickle. But the best, most delicious kind of sweet pickle you’d find at a posh farmer’s market. That’s the kind of pickle you WANT to have.

Nevertheless, it was still a pickle. The 4 or so extra cards wouldn’t be enough to spread cheer through the land and the internet would only cheapen the Christmas card experience. Obviously, there was no alternate option to gleefully withdraw Taylor’s 401(k) account balance in order to purchase ALL the Christmas cards. Normally, this would be a bad thing, but this was a crime done in the name of CHRISTMAS. CHEER.

Plus, I’ve been holding onto this wax sealing kit since my birthday, and there was NO better time than now to melt every wax bit.

PS: Hannah in Washington; you got the best wax seal blend!

NERD ALERT: Just for fun, I made a map in Power BI of how many cards were mailed per state.

Thanks to the map, I learned that Alabama received 2 cards from us.

I don’t know 2 families in Alabama.

???

The map is a fun collection of locations. But the best collection is the Wall of Cheer featuring some of our favorite people, from years past and from just this morning’s mail pickup. (If you would like to be on the Wall of Cheer, please send a Christmas card to:
