a little reader award

I am in constant observance of my children’s talents and interests. Archer likes to do addition out loud at dinnertime; will he be a math whiz like his daddy? Arrow swoons over our kittens; will she be a longtime animal lover like her grandma? Sander is an absolute ham; already he seems to take after his Aunt Kylee’s sense of humor. These threads of a developing personality are so interesting to observe.

But whatever additional interests and talents lay ahead for Arrow, she is definitely a little reader.

She’s been eager to learn how to read, and frankly, has been really easy to teach basic grammar and English. (Much how I was in elementary school. The laws of English & Grammar came naturally to me. Maybe she’ll be a bookworm like her mama?)

For her kindergarten readiness test, Arrow sat down with a teacher and read aloud the sounds of consonants and vowels. At her school, students are allowed to progress beyond their grade level. In Arrow’s case, she began attending 1st, and then 2nd, grade reading classes.

And in fun news last week, this darling little pup won a class award for continuing to progress her reading abilities.

She was feeling a tad shy with all the attention 🙂

This little award is given to kiddos who make an effort to develop their skill sets, regardless of their starting point. We’re proud of Arrow for continuing to develop her reading, and hope this is a lifetime long thread of interest for her. Though we’re happy that reading has come naturally to her (and took little effort on our ends, ha!), we are even happier that she is working hard to learn more. Natural talent is fun; grit & perseverance are what will create a fulfilling life.

So glad to be there to celebrate with you, Arrow!
